The Weight Trait Project (WTP) was initiated in 2009 as a means of working with the beef industry to evaluate and deploy genomic-enhanced EPD through National Cattle Evaluations. To date, the WTP includes over 20 seedstock producers representing 7 breed associations in 7 states. The WTP serves and the critical component of the integrated portion of this project. Producers in the WTP have nominated sires that will produce progeny that will be genotyped and placed in a feed intake system. This "progeny test" allows key seedstock producers to take part in the evaluation of genomic predictions from the research component of the project, and thus to learn by doing.
